What is Baptism?
In following Jesus, we seek not only his words, but His ways. Jesus was baptized in water, fully submerged, as a physical representation to God and man. Although baptism and salvation are not one and the same, they are partners, in opening a door to the Kingdom. Once we have decided to follow Jesus, the symbolic act of baptism is our public acknowledgment that our old life is washed away from us, and we are starting a brand new life, made whole and new in Christ Jesus.

Questions about Baptism:
Why should I be baptized?
Those who are baptized are following Jesus' example and obeying His command.
- “As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on him. And a voice from heaven said, ‘This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.’” —Matthew 3:16–17
- “Then Jesus came to them and said, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.’” —Matthew 28:18–20
What is the significance of baptism?
Water baptism is a public declaration of three things:
1. You are a disciple of Jesus.
1. You are a disciple of Jesus.
- “Those who accepted his message were baptized.” —Acts 2:41
- “We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.” —Romans 6:4
- “So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith, for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.” —Galatians 3:26–27
I have already been baptized. Should I be baptized again?
Your baptism should have signified you becoming a follower of Jesus, beginning a new and changed life with Him, and uniting with the family of God within a church community. If your baptism did not reflect this change of life, or if you have begun a new life with Jesus for a second time, then you should be baptized again.
Can my child be baptized?
We will baptized anyone over the age of 7 who understands what baptism symbolizes and wants to make that personal public declaration. We encourage all parents to partner with our DL Kids and DL Students ministries to guide your children through these decisions of faith.
For more information to help guide your child through this important decision, check out our Children's Baptism Guide.

Can my infant be baptized?
We believe that infant baptism is different than a believer’s baptism. In recognition of this distinction, we individually celebrate baptisms as new life in the Kingdom, and new life in the physical growth of families of Believers by practicing what is known as child dedication. To dedicate children to the Lord is to make a public declaration of a parent’s commitment to intentionally strive to bring up their child in the way of Jesus. We host child dedications throughout the year. For more information about Child Dedications, please visit our DL Kids Page.
